1. My company has accumulated scheduled waste at our factory. What should I do?

According to the Environmental Quality (Scheduled Wastes) Regulations 2005, scheduled waste has to be sent to a prescribed premise for recycling, treatment or disposal.  Kualiti Alam is the only prescribed premise in Malaysia to provide complete off-site scheduled waste management from collection, transportation, analyses and treatment to final disposal. Guidelines on the appropriate packing and labelling of scheduled waste are spelt out in the regulation.
(See Waste Packaging)

2. Can somebody advise how my company should start its own waste management programme?

Our marketing representatives located all over the country are assigned to provide door to door service on scheduled waste management to all our customers.
(See Nationwide Marketing Representatives)

3. Can I store waste at my site indefinitely?

No, under the Environmental Quality (Scheduled Wastes) Regulations 2005, scheduled wastes can be stored for a maximum of 180 days after generation, provided the accumulated scheduled waste does not exceed 20 metric tonnes.

4. Can I send waste to WMC with my own truck?

Only trucks licensed by the Department of Environment are permitted to transport scheduled waste. For the transportation of waste to the WMC, only our trucks, licensed by the Department of Environment, may be used. This is to ensure that the chain of custody for the waste is fully accounted for.

5.
Must my company sign the Scheduled Waste Collection and Transportation Agreement to enlist the assistance of Kualiti Alam?
The Scheduled Waste Collection and Transportation Agreement is a prerequisite for the collection of waste from any parties to the WMC.  The agreement is aimed at the safeguarding the interests of our customers and providing a clear line of responsibility and liability.

6.
How can I get an indication of the potential treatment and cost involved before sending waste for treatment at WMC?

Usually the customer provides Kualiti Alam with a 1 kilogramme or 1 litre of waste for preliminary testing. Kualiti Alam has established a set of waste evaluation guidelines to prescribe the treatment mode and cost for each consignment of waste.  In some cases, results of the preliminary sample testing may differ from the confirmation test results.  In this case the confirmation test results take precedence.

7. How reliable is Kualiti Alam's laboratory analyses?

Kualiti Alam has the most comprehensive scheduled waste evaluation facilities in the country to ensure accurate and reliable analyses.  For independent testing, waste generators can seek the assistance of three independent laboratories appointed by Kualiti Alam.
