Purpose-Built Fleet of Trucks That Transports Wastes Safely and Efficiently

In August 1996, a reputable licensed transporter was appointed the sole transporter for us in Peninsular Malaysia. The company was entrusted with the complete task of waste collection, including transportation from waste generators' premises to the Waste Management Centre, with daily waste collection within the peninsular.

The service began with two 12-tonne curtain-sided lorries with the historic maiden load on 18 October 1996 . In September 2006, the new look for our transportation truck was launched in accordance with the new legal requirement coupled GPS tracking system and our mascot, the firefly.

Today, there is a fleet of dedicated vehicles in operation. They comprise of 1, 3, 8, 12, 20 tonne lorries and IMO tanks. The trucks are painted in the company's corporate colours besides the mandatory colour requirement by DOE.

The trucks are specially designed to meet European standards and are approved by the Malaysian Department of Environment. All vehicles are equipped with the necessary safety and communication equipment to ensure that scheduled wastes are safely transported from waste generators' premises to the WMC.

We are pleased to report that the clean record of scheduled waste transportation is testament to the high priority placed by both waste generators and transporter on this aspect of the scheduled waste management system.

Waste Card System

We observe strictly all the rules governing the transportation of dangerous goods set by the government’s regulatory bodies. One of the requirements is the necessity of carrying a “safety card” on the transporting vehicle to provide the driver with information on the goods being transported. These include:-

• A precise description of the goods
• The dangers related to the goods
• Personal protection when handling the goods
• What to do in case of an accident
• Handling of minor spillage
• Fire
• First aid

The Orange Box

All of our waste transportation vehicles carry an orange box that contains the “waste card”, Consignment Note, a list of telephone numbers of emergency services and a copy of the Emergency Response Plan. In the event of an emergency, the driver as well as the rescue party will first attempt to retrieve the orange box that is placed on the dashboard of the vehicle before attempting to handle the damaged consignment.

Emergency Response Plan (ERP)

Our fleet of waste transportation vehicles are also equipped with safety equipment and accessories such as fire extinguishers, first-aid kit, rubber safety boots, absorbent bags, broom, rubber/leather gloves, mask, safety helmet, plastic bags, spade and safety cones. Drivers are trained and regularly refreshed with the procedures of the ERP by us. Shapadu-Linfox also maintains its own on-site ERP and conducts training for drivers to handle emergencies affecting any of the vehicles, drivers or products being carried.
